Candle In The Darkness

early work
Liner notesThis veers wildly between cheesiness and genius. Part of me is a bit eye-rolly at the lack of independence, but at the same time, it's got some lines I nod at respectfully. I read this at my mum and Ray's wedding.

I was washed-up, I was weary,
You were the tide that came for me
I was lost and I was drifting,
You were the currents in the sea
And every time I was drowning,
You would rescue me.

I was losing, I was left-behind,
You were right behind me
I was dull and I was smokey,
You were pot pourri
And every time I was silenced,
You'd speak out for me.

You were my candle in the darkness
You were the hope that pulled me through
You were my candle in the darkness
I was falling in love with you
I was falling in love with you, in love with you.

I was failing, I was flailing,
You held your arms out for me
I was short-tempered and shouting,
You held me down and made me count to three
And every time I was put-upon,
You put up with me.

You were my candle in the darkness
You were the hope that pulled me through
You were my candle in the darkness
I was falling in love with you
I was falling in love with you
And if I hurt you, I apologise,
If I made you cry, I'll dry your eyes
If you're sad then I'll sing songs for you,
Yell you that I'm fond of you
Do you realise I'm fond of you, I'm fond of you?
I was falling in love with you
I was falling in love with you, in love with you.

I was hungry, I was hopeless,
You brought my dinner round to me
I was heart-broken and bleeding,
You were vitamin C
And every time I was blinded,
You'd look after me.

You were my candle in the darkness
You were the hope that pulled me through
You were my candle in the darkness
I was falling in love with you
I was falling in love with you, in love with you.
