It's Beautiful

pseudoramblings
Liner notesThere wasn't a particular inspiration for this one other than thinking it'd be nice to do a Motown-style song. And then shamelessly stealing Motown motifs. I feel like the verses are a bit lack-lustre, honestly, but the prechorus build to the refrain makes up for it.

A spark in your eyes, a flash of surprise
You're shaking you hands, as if you understand
With assurance in your shoulders and a swagger in your walk
You stride up to the blackboard and you cover it in chalk
You leap onto the table and you break out into song
It's beautiful, it's simple, and it's wrong
It's beautiful, it's simple, and it's wrong.

A flicker of gloom, a cloud in the room
Put the cap on the pen, as you read it again
You adopt a pensive posture, defensively cross-armed
An apprehensive attitude, a look of mild alarm
You point at a parameter, say "that does not belong"
It's beautiful, it's simple, and it's wrong
It's beautiful, it's simple, and it's wrong.

You slump in the chair, with a thousand-yard stare
Then you pick up the book for another look
You mutter something motivating, trying to sound zen
If you fall down nine times, you're sure to get up ten
Resilience to failure is the force that keeps us strong
It's beautiful, it's simple and it's one more step along
The road from your confusion to another near-solution
It's beautiful, it's simple and it's wrong
It's beautiful, it's simple and it's wrong
