Plinth Of Darkness

one man's fight
Liner notesThis one went through a few iterations. It's very much a Kensson song; I'm not sure I actually do approve, although I certainly found the incident amusing. This was slightly inspired by a Harry Chapin monologue about how there was a set of statues they referred to as 'the pigeon run', and by Tom Paxton's Filling A Bottle For Ronnie. The punchline is pretty much stolen from there.

I had a nightmare the other night
About a monster totally white
Well over two metres in stature
But the thing that scared me more
Was the uncanny resemblance it bore
To a real-life monster called Margaret Thatcher

It's cold, it's unmoving and it has no heart
So how can we tell Mrs Thatcher and the statue apart?

It's got a steely glare and a bag in hand
But they've got nowhere for it to stand
It can't go in the Commons until she's dead
And while it's good to kill two birds with one stone
I approve of killing one alone
And taking a cricket bat to Mrs Thatcher's head

It's cold, it's unmoving and it has no heart
So how can we tell Mrs Thatcher and the statue apart?

There's a vacant plinth in Trafalgar Square
We could put Mrs Thatcher there
So you can see her as you go by on the bus
But you'd have to disguise your glee
At seeing pigeons doing to Mrs T
What Mrs T kept on doing to us

It's cold, it's unmoving and it has no heart
So how can we tell Mrs Thatcher and the statue apart?
