Stuck Inside Of Avignon (With The John Stuart Mill's Tombstone Blues Again)
Liner notes
Right, yeah, this is a silly title. I know. I was going through a phase. I'm pretty sure I've only played this live once, the intro bit is lovely, but also super-fiddly and I can't remember how it goes. A reviewer once described this song as being hit in the face by a cloud -- not entirely unpleasant, but a bit wet. Finistère is a lovely detail.A thousand miles from home, wherever that may be
My hat's still in my suitcase, my heart remains with me.
She, she could explode for all I care,
If I had hot water, I'd wash her right out of my hair
I'm sick of this old town, I'm sure it's sick of me,
I can only see a doctor if it's an emergency.
She, she's got a nerve to say she'd hurt,
Just now I can't imagine she knows the meaning of the word
Now the time to dance is almost here
Give me the right girl and a few more beers
I just want to disappear
So far from home and so close to tears.
My memory's still not shaken all her shackles from it yet,
So it seems my only option is to get drunk and forget
She, she said "Phone if you feel footloose"
But all the phones frome here to Finistère are broken or in use.
Now the time to dance is almost here
Give me the right girl and a few more beers
I just want to disappear
So far from home and so close to tears.
