Set list at Dry Dock open mic
April 24, 2026
I think that was the most competent set I've done in a while, including three songs that are less than a month old. I had fun.
Attention All Shipping was the interesting one for me -- like, there's a Richard Thompson song about Alexander Graham Bell that I enjoy as a nice piece of whimsy, but if you're an AGB aficionado, it makes you feel seen. I could see a few people nodding away thinking "pleasantly diverting" and one person who was "YES! I LOVE THE SHIPPING FORECAST!" and I think that connecting with someone on that level is one of the best things about songwriting and performing.
Meanwhile, Connection seems to be becoming one of my trusted go-to set-openers, I feel like it sets out the sort of thing you can expect from me straight away: I'm generally aiming for smart, slightly detached and relatably odd. (And I love the "To bastards and asshats and shitheels and swine" line.)
I always enjoy it when Tim and Ellie host, they're amazing at making everyone feel included and supported.
